Now it would be easier for travelers to save their precious time at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta. The airport introduced new iris scanning technology to avoid long immigration lines. The best aspect of the service is that frequent fliers can get rid of long queues and it has reduced the manual screening procedure to a great extent.

The travelers willing to avail the facility will have to deposit $US200 ($A255) per year. Concern authorities say that if the work goes as planned then it would soon be launched at other airports as well. So far, 550 passengers have applied to use the service which is expected to rise to 20,000.

How it works:

‘Saphire’ program was developed by PT Angkasa Pura Schiphol (APS), a joint venture company between state-owned Angkasa Pura II and the Schiphol Group of The Netherlands. It scans left and right eyes, which are as matchless as prints of the fingers and palm. It is expected to take around 10 seconds to scan the identity of person.

Notably, US and Australian governments have issued warning about the possible attacks in Indonesia during Christmas and New Year. The government wants to take all precautionary measures to ensure safe traveling.
