The soon to be launched German Airlines Smintair hopes to be a smoker’s paradise. Even though the world over there is a call to put a stop to smoking, with Germany itself considering to impose a ban on smoking in public places. Mr. Alexander W. Schoppmann, a former investment banker is planning to launch his new airline, Smintair the Smokers’ International Airline.
It will start on the 26th of March, 2007 from Dusseldorf in Germany to Tokyo, Japan and vice-versa. Flights will charge 6,500 euros ($8,300) return for business-class seats and 10,000 euros ($12,800) return for first-class seats. In his defense Mr. Schoppmann (a smoker himself for 40 years) says:
“It’s not so much the idea of letting someone smoke, it’s more the idea of letting people who are coming on board, who are making decisions every day, they don’t want to be told off and we are giving them a feeling of being on a luxury airline.”
He further added that each passenger would be able to use an onboard Internet service and each would also have a 15-inch (38-centimeter) television screen. For the non smokers these airlines have added air conditioning systems using fresh outside air.
