Every year winter brings a lot of trouble for the north Indian Airports as the dense fog conditions disrupt the flights, resulting in delays. This year also problems are fast approaching.
Second successive day dozen of flights were delayed for more than three hours this morning at Indira Gandhi International Airport Delhi. Meteorological department said the visibility was less than 100 meters at between 5:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. but it improved quickly to 1000 meters as the sun descended in the sky.
Department said that the runway visibility had improved to 1000 meters by 10:00 a.m.
Most of the domestic and international Airlines are not familiar with Cat III b instrument landing system which helps to take off and land under the zero visibility conditions. Yet all CAT-II and CAT-III systems were activated at the airport at about 5:30 a.m. citing the dense fog gathered on the runway.
