The Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) has condemned the ‘congestion charge’ imposed by the Indian Airlines on travelers despite the recent downfall of ATF in international market. Federation said that the aviation companies are misleading the customers by their advertisements that leave out the surcharges.

Praveen Chugh said in a press release: ‘Decision is inexplicable in view of the fact that the same airlines seem to be engaged in a fierce advertising war to publicise the lowest fares.’

The federation demanded that all surcharges - fuel, insurance, congestion etc - which are not legitimate government taxes, form an inalienable part of operating costs and must necessarily be included in the published fare advertised by airlines.

Notably, some international and domestic airlines have added ‘congestion surcharge’ of Rs 150 per coupon and it would be charged over the current fuel surcharge of Rs 750.
