Next time you travel by Britain’s Premium Aircraft Interiors Group, you will be surprised; the seating arrangement of the plane has changed. Freedom Economy Seat, a three-seat row that flips the middle one backward has been introduced. Also there is a four-seat row in which the middle two face backward. Ben Bettell, the PAIG executive has led the seat design plan project and it is said that Freedom seats also would give passengers at least two more inches of legroom than conventional seats. This change is brought about to get rid of the current problems of coach passengers bumping elbows, knees and especially shoulders, typically the widest part of the body. PAIG is now considering a wider Freedom seat configuration for first-class sections of narrower planes such as the Boeing 737 or Airbus A320. Source: USA Today

EOS jets marry corporate class with luxury travel

Supersonic airlines may be a thing of the past, but luxury travel across the Atlantic is entering a new era with the advent of EOS Airways. EOS Airways takes the concept of corporate jet travel and marries it with luxury commercial travel. EOS jets are reconfigured for 48 sleekly designed seats that are more like mini-cabins than conventional airline seats and feature circular high-profile walls. Arranged in a staggered two-by-two layout, each suite doubles as a flat bed. Each passenger is offered 21 square feet with business travel conveniences such as private electrical outlets and a worktable, larger than the standard foldout table. The seats are adjustable, allowing you to make the best use of them as per your mood and comfortability. These seats are big enough for a person 6’6" to recline completely. The tickets are no doubt expensive but cheaper than Business Class on most of the airlines. I’m sure, you’ll be willing to pay a bit more to get a benefit of a solid sleep that will exceed the cost. As per J.D. Power and Associates’ customer-satisfaction rankings of North American airlines, JetBlue Airways Corp. and Continental Airlines Inc. have topped once again. Image credit Continental finished first among traditional network carriers for the second straight year. Despite severe delays and flight cancellations caused by weather and computer malfunctions in the past year, JetBlue remained the top-ranked U.S. low-cost airline carrier. JetBlue Airways ranked highest overall for the third consecutive year, earning the highest ranking for low-cost carriers defined as airlines that operate single-cabin aircraft with typically low fares in 2006 and 2007. The overall customer satisfaction based on performance in seven measures, including cost and fees, flight crew, in-flight services, aircraft, boarding/deplaning/baggage, check-in and reservation. However six of the eight carriers saw their scores fall from 2006. That decline was largely limited to the eight network airlines rated. Their average score was 667 out of a possible 1,000 points, down eight points from the 2006 survey. The worst low-fare carrier, AirTran Airways, with 721 points scored higher than the best network carrier did, Continental, with 704 points. Northwest Airlines scored the worst in customer satisfaction amongst the eight major airlines. Even as the skies are getting crowded, competition between airlines is getting tighter. At the end of the day it is customer satisfaction that’s going to get more passengers on board. Source: Dallas News

Kingfisher airlines set to buy new planes

Vijay Mallya seems to be on a total high after having acquired 26 per cent stake in Air Deccan and is now planning to buy at least five wide-bodied Airbus aircraft at an estimated value of $1 billion for its international operations. The airlines might even opt for the world’s longest commercial passenger aircraft in operation, the Airbus A340-600, which has a seating capacity between 380 and 419 seats. Besides five A380s, Kingfisher Airlines had placed orders for five A350-800s, five A340-500s and five A330s. The announcements for the same are likely to be made at the International Paris Air Show scheduled to be held between June 18 and 21. Kingfisher Airlines, which just completed two years of operation, is expecting a go-ahead from the Ministry of Civil Aviation for launching international services.

Jet Airways Wednesday said it would operate five flights a day from India to the Belgian capital and provide seamless connections for onward journey to the US and Canada. It aims to cater to Indian traffic to Europe, Africa and America .Jet Airways is going places with this large opening. Earlier it bought Air Sahara and introduced Jet lite and gave stiff competition to Kingfisher in the domestic sector. Currently it operates 340 flights across 44 destination such as Malasyia, Maldives, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Nepal etc. It has got a lot of space and capacity, which we will be using. Since (Belgian carrier) Sabena closed down, the airport was being operated only by the Brussels Airlines and some American carriers. We are the only Indian carrier to be creating such a hub on foreign soil," Jet Airways Chief Naresh Goyal told PTI in an interview here. " Our vision is to make Jet Airways match larger carriers like Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific. Through this hub, we will be participating in the European market as well," he said, revealing for the first time the airline’s plans about the Brussels operations.

Zoom Airlines the UK sister company to Canada’s premiere low cost, full service, transatlantic airline, has landed its first flight in the U.S. Joining the ranks of stiff competition between low cost transatlantic airlines. The low-fare, full- service airline will operate daily flights from New York’s JFK Airport to London Gatwick for $199.00 each way, excluding taxes. And, as a special promotion, flights departing from JFK between June 22 – July 13, 2007, will be offered for $99.00 one way, with taxes included. Unlike competitors, Zoom’s booking service features flexible one-way fares with no precincts. It will also be pioneering a number of new environmental and ethical policies in its new services from the UK to the USA. It will be using Boeing 767-300 aircraft with a seat pitch of 31″ in Economy and 36″ in Premium Economy. The New York to London flights will offer economy and premium economy services, including full meals and in-flight entertainment at no extra cost. Zoom has operated full-service, low-cost flights from Canada to the UK for the last three years and has been granted permission to operate from London Gatwick as an official UK carrier to the United States along with British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. The seat pitch in the economy cabins is going to increase as per the proposal made by Europe’s air safety authorities (EASA). Safety and the health issues are the factors that have led EASA make this proposal. According to European Union legislation planes must be able to be evacuated in less than 90 seconds. But EASA claims that less seat pitch and cramped conditions can hamper emergency evacuations. Moreover, less seat pitch increases the risk of passengers developing deep-vein thrombosis (DVT). It is a blood clot that develops, usually in the legs, when movement is restricted and which can be fatal if it reaches the lungs or brain. The standard size of seats in economy on many aircraft is 16-inch and a survey carried out last year showed that two-thirds of men and one in seven women were too broad-shouldered for these seats. Women feel the pinch around the hips and these 16-inch seats are two narrow for them. The decision is not yet taken but once the decision to increase the seat pitch is taken all airlines flying to and from Europe will be affected. It is said that if the authority of EASA were increased, the rules could only be enforced for the existing planes. No, doubt that increase in seat pitch will give more legroom to the passengers but will all the passengers enjoy the luxury space, only time will tell. Source: MSNBC

DayJet to launch air taxi service this summer

The time has gone when air-taxis were meant only for the top executives and the fabulously wealthy. Florida based company, Dayjet Corp. plans to launch affordable air-taxi service this August. The company aims to bring the real convenience of corporate jet travel to the general public. The air taxi is the ultra-quiet plane that is same as a sport utility vehicle, which has just three passenger seats in the configuration. It has a top cruising speed of 425 mph (685 kph). The range of the air taxi is around 1,240 miles depending on the heft of the two pilots and passengers, all weighed in before boarding. There are no on-board bathrooms but the passengers are sure to get ample cabin-space legroom. Initially, DayJet will fly only at limited airports but within 12 months of launch it plans to offer service between 20 regional airports in four states across the U.S. Southeast. Per seat, on-demand: DayJet will provide per seat on demand service which means travelers who pay an annual $250 membership fee will have to pay only for the seat they reserve and not for use of the whole aircraft as in a charter service. There are no fixed-flight schedules, so travelers have to pick a time for reaching their destination. DayJet will start its Monday-to-Friday service with a fleet of just 10 planes. Launch of air taxi service by DayJet will make it easier for people who are not super rich, and wish to go for lower cost, private and point-to-point air travel. Source: MSNBC

If you are traveling to London, here’s some good news. You won’t have to wait in long lines anymore for a cab to take you to your nearest hotel. The London city airport has launched a service called hotel shuttle service, which will take you to your hotel right away! The hotels taking part in the service are Ramada, Holiday Inn, Ibis, Yatch, Marriott, Hilton and a few others. The guests of these hotels will be entitled to the airport shuttle service which will pick them up and drop them off to and from hotels/airports. The price will be fixed. The fares start from pound 1. The service will be available starting October 8th. These fixed price and fixed departures will run between hotel and airports for every thirty minutes. The hours of operation are: 06:00 to 22:00 BST between Monday and Friday, 06:00 to 13:00 BST on Saturday and 12:30 to 22:00 BST on Sunday. I think this is a pretty cool service. This kind of legitimate service lets passengers avoid the fraudulent and misleading cab drivers who can charge extra just to drop the passenger off at their respective hotels. Hopefully, all major airports throughout the world will run similar service like these.

An aircraft is a device useful for vacationing with the environment. People have got dreamed of traveling like chickens for years and years. The China fantasy relationship for you to at least 1500 n.h. speaks of males traveling with the air flow in the buggy powered simply by a thing very much like a contemporary propeller.
